INTENDED USE:
The BioShield® biopsy valve is used to cover the opening to the biopsy/suction channel inlet of a gastrointestinal endoscope. The
BioShield® biopsy valve provides access for endoscopic device passage and exchange, helps maintain insufflation and minimizes
leakage of biomaterial from the biopsy port throughout the gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure.
A variety of (6) different BioShield® biopsy valves are available. BioShield® biopsy valve (part #HZ-711124, #HZ-711125, #HZ-711133,
#HZ-711135) is used to cover the opening to the biopsy/suction channel of Olympus and G5 series and newer Fujinon gastrointestinal
endoscopes only. BioShield® biopsy valve (part #HZ-711136, #HZ-711137) is used to cover the biopsy/suction channel of Pentax
gastrointestinal endoscopes only.
The BioShield® irrigator (part #HZ-711133), appropriate for use with Olympus and G5 series or newer Fujinon gastrointestinal
endoscopes, and the BioShield® irrigator (part #HZ-711137), appropriate for use with Pentax gastrointestinal endoscopes, will also
allow for remote irrigation via an attached irrigation line.
The BioShield® irrigating adaptor (part #HZ-711131) is used for intraprocedural gastrointestinal endoscopic irrigation when attached to
a luer-lock or slip-tip syringe through the BioShield® biopsy valve.
The BioShield® irrigator extension tubing (part #HZ-711134) is used for attachment to an auxiliary water pump for hands-free foot pedal
irrigation control.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
• The BioShield® biopsy valve part # selected by the clinician must accommodate the type/manufacturer of gastrointestinal
endoscope utilized. Selection is determined in accordance for use with Olympus and G5 series and newer Fujinon
gastrointestinal endoscopes, or for use with Pentax gastrointestinal endoscopes.
• Syringe is not included.
• Closing the pinch clamp attached to the irrigation line on part #HZ-711133 and part #HZ-711137 prevents “whistling” when the
irrigation line is not in use.
• Irrigating through the BioShield® biopsy valve’s irrigation line with a device in the biopsy channel requires sufficient space
between the diameter of the device and the diameter of the endoscope’s channel. Adequate space is required to allow fluid to
pass freely at a moderate pressure so that the valve connections do not leak.
◊ Example: 2.3mm device in a 2.8mm channel (space .5mm) = inadequate space to allow for moderate pressure
delivery of fluids; leakage may occur.
◊ Example: 2.3mm device in a 3.2mm channel (space .9mm) = space is increased, keeping pressure in the
moderate range, thus limiting the potential for valve connection leakage.
• FOR PART #HZ-711133 AND #HZ-711137: Leakage through non-sheathed spring-coiled devices such as biopsy
forceps will occur if irrigation is performed while the non-sheathed device remains in the biopsy channel.
• Do not attempt to reuse, reprocess, refurbish, remanufacture or resterilize this device. STERIS Endoscopy did not design this
device nor is it intended to be reused, reprocessed, refurbished, remanufactured, or resterilized. Performing such activities on
this disposable medical device presents a safety risk to patients (i.e. compromised device integrity, cross-contamination,
infection).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE (BY PRODUCT NUMBER):
HZ-711131 BioShield® – irrigating adaptor
1. Attach the irrigating adaptor to luer-lock or slip tip syringe; fill syringe with institutionally approved irrigation fluid (eg. sterile water).
2. Syringe with irrigating adaptor may now be used as needed for intraprocedural irrigation by gently placing the assembled syringe
and irrigating adaptor into the biopsy valve and depressing the syringe plunger until desired irrigation effect is achieved. Repeat
as needed.
HZ-711133 BioShield® irrigator
1. Securely place the biopsy valve with irrigation line onto the biopsy/suction channel opening of Olympus or G5 series and newer
Fujinon gastrointestinal endoscope.
2. Close the pinch clamp attached to the irrigation line to prevent “whistling” until attachment of a syringe or auxiliary water pump
extension tubing for the purpose of irrigating is desired.
3. Fill luer-lock syringe with institutionally approved irrigation fluid (eg. sterile water).
4. To irrigate, open the pinch clamp on the irrigation line and attach the fluid-filled syringe to the irrigation line; depress syringe
plunger until desired irrigation effect is achieved; repeat as necessary. ALTERNATE METHOD: open the pinch clamp on the
irrigation line; attach part #HZ-711134 BioShield® irrigator extension tubing (180cm) to compatible auxiliary water pump, securing
the male end of the tubing to the BioShield® device’s irrigation line. Depress the water pump’s foot pedal until desired irrigation
effect is achieved; repeat as necessary.
5. Close the pinch clamp on the irrigation line when not in use for irrigation; this will prevent “whistling.”
