2 Using the rice cooker
Tips
To cancel the cooking programs, press
Warm/O button, the rice cooker

Take out all the accessories from the inner
pot. Remove the packaging material of the
inner pot.

Clean the parts of the rice cooker
thoroughly before using the rice cooker for
the rst time (see chapter
Cleaning
).
Note
Make sure all parts are completely dry
before you start using the rice cooker.

Measure the rice using the measuring cup
provided. Wash the rice thoroughly, and put
the pre-washed rice in the inner pot.

Add water to the level indicated on the
scale inside the inner pot that corresponds
to the number of cups of rice used. Then
smooth the rice surface.
Note
Each cup of uncooked rice normally gives
3 cups of cooked rice. Do not exceed the
quantities indicated on the inside of the
inner pot.
The level marked inside the inner pot is
just an indication. You can always adjust
the water level for dierent types of rice
and your own preference. If the voltage is
unstable at the area you live, it is possible
that the rice cooker overows.
Besides following the water level
indications, you can also add rice and
water at 1:1-1:2 ratio for rice cooking. Do
not exceed the quantities indicated on the
inside of the inner pot.
Use a separate container to wash the rice
to avoid damaging the non-stick coating of
the inner pot.
Make sure that the outside of the inner pot
is dry and clean, and that there is no foreign
residue on the heating element or the
magnetic switch.
The Quick funtion is for cooking rice only.

Wipe the outside of the inner pot dry, then
put the inner pot in the rice cooker. Check
if the inner pot is in proper contact with the
heating element ( Fig

Note
Make sure that the outside of the inner pot
is dry and clean, and that there is no foreign
residue on the heating element.

Close the lid of the rice cooker, and put the
plug in the power socket (Fig

Preset time for delayed cooking

You can preset the delayed cooking time for
some menus. The preset timer is available from
1 hour up to 24 hours.
Note
The cooking process will be nished by
the time the preset time has elapsed. For
instance, if the current time is 12:00 (noon
time), and you would like the rice ready by
18:00 in the afternoon, you need to set the
preset time of 6 hours.
If the preset time is shorter than the
cooking time, the cooking process will start
immediately.
The preset timer is not available in the
following menus: Reheat, Yogurt and Cake.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Note
Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
Wait until the appliance has cooled down
suciently before cleaning.
Maker sure to clean the detachable inner
lid regularly, otherwise it will discolour and
develop a foul odor.
Do not use scouring pads or other hard
objects to clean the inner pot and top lid.
Tip
Use a soft glove or cloth to clean the top lid.
The inner pot has a nonstick coating. Do
not use scouring pads or other hard objects
to clean it. Use the steam Steam function
for easier cleaning.
Disassemble the inner lid (Fig
13

)
To disassemble the inner lid, press the clamp
on top of the lid (1), and then pull the lid out
( Fig ).
To assemble the inner lid, attach the lock on the
bottom of the inner lid to the slot on the top lid,
and then aim the high spot in the triangle at the
hole in the center of the inner lid ( Fig ).
Tip
Before using the appliance, make sure to
check if the inner lid is properly assembled.
Interior
Soak the detachable inner lid and steam valve
in warm or cold water and wash with a sponge.
Wipe the inside of the appliance with wrung
out cloth.
Remove all the food residues stuck to the
appliance.
Exterior
Wipe with a cloth damped with soap water.
Only use soft and dry cloth to wipe the
control panel.
Make sure to remove all the food residues on
the top lid.
Accessories and inner pot
Rice scoop, steam basket and inner pot.
Soak in hot water and clean with sponge.
Note
Do not place spoons, bowls or any other
object in the inner pot that may damage
the nonstick coating.
Clean the inner pot immediately if
seasonings are used in it.
4 Recycling
Do not throw away the product with the
normal household waste at the end of its life,
but hand it in at an ocial collection point for
recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve the
environment.
Follow your country's rules for the separate
collection of electrical and electronic products.
Correct disposal helps prevent negative
consequences for the environment and human
health.

The user may adjust the raw material
proportion as per personal tastes.
Do not put in too much raw material,
or the quality will be aected and even
underdone.

Separate the whites from the yolks and put
them in dierent bowls.

Mix round white sugar with the whites and
yolks respectively, till the bubbles appear.
Note
If the temperature of egg is too low, you
may use insulated water at 40
°
C to warm
it up. The cake made will be soft, loose and
elastic.
Whisk the egg till the egg material ows
down the egg whisk as silk.
The vessel and egg whisk must be clean.
If there is oil in it, the egg mixture will not
produce bubbles easily.
To avoid scratching the nonstick coating, do
not whisk the egg in the inner pot.

Add cake powder, and mix well.

Add milk and melted butter (warm up the
butter above warm water till it liquies), and
mix them immediately.
Note
If the mixture is not well beat up, there will
be big bubbles in the cake, and the cake will
have a rough taste. If the mixture is over beat
up, the cake will be too hard without bubbles.
Pour the cake mixture into the inner pot
and start the baking process before the
bubbles burst.
When the baking is nished, do not leave
the cake inside of the inner pot. Take it
out immediately to avoid the cake getting
damp.

Problem Solution
The light on

does not go
on.
There is a connection
problem. Check if the power
cord is connected to the
rice cooker properly and if

There is not enough water.
Add water according to the
scale on the inside of the
inner pot.
You don't press the Start

Make sure that there is
no foreign residue on the
heating element and the
outside of the inner pot
before switching the rice
cooker on.
The heating element is
damaged, or the inner
pot is deformed. Take the
rice cooker to your Philips
dealer or a service center
authorized by Philips.
The rice is too
soft, too hard,
or not well
cooked.
If the appliance is
positioned on an uneven or
tilted surface, the texture
of the cooked rice may be
too hard or too soft as the
amount of water becomes
inconsistent.
The texture of rice varies
depending on the brand of
rice, where it was harvested,
and how long it was stored
(new crop or old crop).
The texture of rice varies
depending on the room
and water temperatures.
Using the preset function
may result in softer rice.
This is normal.
Using the quick rice cooking
menu setting may result in
harder rice. This is normal.
Check if the inner pot is
deformed.
