Thank you for buying the ELB 1200 Head for the ELB 1200 power pack.

All ELINCHROM products are manufactured using the most advanced technology. Carefully

selected components are used to ensure the highest quality and the equipment is submitted

to many controls both during and after manufacture. All ash units are manufactured for the

studio and location use of professional photographers. We trust that it will give you many

years of reliable service.

Please read the instructions carefully, before use, for your safety and to obtain maximum

benet from many features.

This unit embodies the very latest technology and is manufactured in Switzerland, by

ELINCHROM LTD, complying with all Swiss and E.C. relevant norms.

THE ELB 1200 HEADS OFFER THE FOLLOWING FEATURES:

• New robust aluminum housing with ergonomic carrying and positioning handle.

• The cooling fan can be silent, when used in video mode.

modelling lamp with timer and on, free, prop, and VFC options.

• New ultra-strong metal tilt-head with extra 7 and 8 mm umbrella tting.

• New centered umbrella tube for 7 and 8 mm umbrella shafts.

BEFORE YOU START

The ELB 1200 and the ELB 1200 heads are portable units, which will be frequently used “on

location”. Please be aware of the danger, or inconvenience, which it may represent to others

for example children.

• Ensure that the power pack is switched OFF.

• Connect the ash cable with the security locking ring to the power pack.

• Adapt the reectors or accessories, which are required for the shooting.

• Only correctly tted ash cable connections are secured against moister and dust.

• Power pack outlets not in use must be protected with the security covers.

• Check all connections again; the cable must be locked with the security ring and then

switch on the unit.

Please read the ELB 1200 power pack manual.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting or disconnecting heads.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting accessories and reectors.

• Ambient temperature when the unit is in use: -5° C (23° F) up to 40° C (104° F).

USER SAFETY INFORMATION

• Because a portable ashhead is frequently used “on location” please be aware of the

danger, or inconvenience, which it may represent to others for example children.

• Keep ash units out of reach of unauthorised persons whenever possible.

• Do not use in restricted areas (like hospitals, always ask permission before).

• Do not use near ammable / explosive material.

• Always switch off the unit before connecting or disconnecting heads.

• Flashtubes and the LED-reector dishes may become very hot during and after use!

• Do not touch the LED; this might cause damages.

• Never touch a ashtube or exchange it before the unit has cooled down and is

disconnected from the battery.

• Do not re ashes from short distances when directed towards a person.

• Minimum distance for persons: 30 cm, for animals 1 – 2 m.

• There is high voltage and can be high currents inside, so please apply all the usual

safety precautions when handling the unit, changing ashtubes, ash cables, etc., as

you would with mains powered electronic ash.

• Protect the heads & power pack when used in wet conditions.

• Flashhead cables must be connected correctly to the power pack

• If the unit has been exposed to very cold conditions, sudden exposure to warm or

humid air may cause condensation and malfunction.

• Transport the heads only in the original bags, cases or cartons and protect the

ashtube and the LED with the protection cap.

• Avoid direct sunlight which might heat up the heads and the power pack.

• Do not open the unit. In the event of damage or apparent failure, contact the Elinchrom

Service Centre.

SILENT MODE

The ELB 1200 heads offer ventilation cooling which can be switched to “silent mode” for

video use.

FITTING ACCESSORIES

1. Always switch the power pack off, before attaching accessories.

2. Mount the ELB 1200 head to a tripod and lock the security screw.

3. Turn the locking ring of the reector bayonet anticlockwise to the OPEN position.

4. Insert an accessory and turn it clockwise until you hear it click into place.

5. Turn the locking ring clockwise to lock the bayonet, indicated by the white mark on the

bayonet ring.

6. Check that the reector is properly connected.

REMOVING THE GLASS DOME

1. To remove the dome disconnect the ash cable from the power pack and leave the

head to cool down.

2. Remove any accessories.

3. Turn the glass dome anticlockwise and pull. Please use gloves as a safety

precaution. Ret the glass dome by turning the dome clockwise until is locked.

FLASHTUBE REPLACEMENT

1. Switch the power pack off.

2. Disconnect the ash cable from the power pack.

3. Place the head horizontally on a rigid, clean and dry surface.

4. It will need to be held rmly whilst removing and replacing the ashtube.

5. Allow the ashtube to cool down.

ALWAYS USE A PROTECTIVE GLOVE TO REMOVE THE FLASHTUBE!

6. Remove the security spring from the ashtube and pull the ashtube rmly out of the

terminals.

7. If the tube is broken, use security gloves to avoid cutting yourself and use an

insulated tool to pull out the electrodes. Never touch the metal electrodes.

8. Now replace with a new correct original Elinchrom ashtube. An insulated tissue or

security gloves MUST BE USED. Any contact with your ngers on the tube, can cause

dark markings on the tube when used.

9. Check that the tube is correctly aligned (central) and that the trigger contact is

gripping the tube with the security wire.

10. Re-connect and test the head as usual.

NOTE: Check the correct polarisation when Action, A-type ashtubes are replaced! They

normally t only in one direction!

MAINTENANCE

The head requires very little maintenance. To ensure secure operation please check the following

points regularly before connecting the head to the power pack:

• Ensure that the contacts of the ashhead connector are not burned or corroded.

• The ash cable should not have any marks or cuts. A damaged cable must not be used!

• Ensure that the plug-in ash tube and the glass dome are correctly tted.

• Do not use water to clean dust and dirt from the head.

• Ventilation grids must be clean and free of any tape etc.

• When the head is connected to the power pack, check that the fan cooling is active.

CAUTION!

Under no circumstances open any part of the equipment. The ELB 1200 head is not user

serviceable and contains dangerously high voltage. In the event of difficulties contact your

Elinchrom Service partner.

REGULAR CHECK

National safety regulations require frequent safety checks of the electrical equipment. The ELB

1200 head should be checked once a year. This check not only guarantees safety; it also protects

the value of the unit.

RETURN TO CUSTOMER SERVICE

To achieve maximum protection of the unit when sending it in for service, the original packaging

should be kept.

This device has been manufactured to the highest standards from materials which can be

Any components not reclaimable will be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Elinchrom Produkte wurden mit der marktführenden Technologie hergestellt. Sorgfältig

Der ELB 1200 und der ELB 1200 Aufsatz sind tragbare Geräte, die häug “vor Ort” zum

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass das Netzteil auf AUS steht.

• Verbinden Sie das Blitzkabel mit dem Sicherheitsverschlussring und das Netzteil.

• Passen Sie die für das Fotoshooting erforderlichen Reektoren oder das Zubehör an.

• Nur korrekt montierte Blitzkabelverbindungen sind gesichert gegen Feuchtigkeit und

Staub.

• Netzstecker, die nicht in Gebrauch sind, müssen mit einer Schutzkappe gesichert sein.

• Prüfen Sie erneut alle Verbindungen; das Kabel muss mit dem Sicherheitsring

verschlossen sein, bevor Sie das Gerät einschalten.

• Blitzlampen und die LED-Reektoren können während und nach dem Gebrauch sehr

heiß sein!

• Fassen sie die LED nicht an; das kann Schäden verursachen.

• Fassen Sie eine Blitzlampe niemals an, bevor sie komplett abgekühlt ist und vom Akku

getrennt wurde.

• Feuern Sie kein Blitze aus kurzer Distanz auf Personen ab.

• Die Minimum Distanz zu Personen: 30 cm, zu Tieren: 1 – 2 m.

• Es können große Ausgleichsströme und Spannungen auftreten, daher wenden

Sie bitte alle üblichen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen an, wenn Sie das Gerät bedienen,

Blitzlampen oder Blitzkabel etc. auswechseln, die Sie auch bei netzbetriebenen

elektronischen Blitzgeräten anwenden würden.

• Blitzaufsatzkabel müssen korrekt an das Netzteil angeschlossen werden.

• Falls das Gerät sehr kalten Temperaturen ausgesetzt war, kann plötzliche Wärme oder

feuchte Luft zu Kondensation und Fehlfunktion führen.

• Transportieren Sie die Aufsätze ausschließlich in den Originaltaschen, -gehäuse oder

-kartons und schützen Sie die Blitzlampe und die LED durch die Schutzkappe.

• Vermeiden Sie direkte Sonneinstrahlung, die Aufsätze und Netzteil aufheizen könnte.

• Öffnen Sie das Gerät nicht. Im Falle einer Beschädigung oder offensichtlicher

Fehlfunktion kontaktieren Sie das Elinchrom Service Center.

LAUTLOSER MODUS

Der ELB 1200 Aufsatz bietet Lüftung, die im Video Modus auf “lautlos” gestellt werden kann.

MONTAGE ZUBEHÖR

1. Schalten Sie das Netzteil immer aus, bevor Sie Zubehör anschließen.

2. Montieren Sie den ELB 1200 Aufsatz auf einen Dreifuß und schließen Sie die

Sicherheitsschraube.

3. Drehen Sie den Verschlussring des Reektor Bajonetts gegen den Uhrzeigersinn in die

OFFEN Position.

4. Setzen Sie ein Zubehörteil ein und drehen Sie es im Uhrzeigersinn, bis Sie es

einrasten hören.

5. Drehen Sie den Verschlussring im Uhrzeigersinn, um das Bajonett zu schließen, was

durch die weiße Markierung auf dem Bajonettring angezeigt wird.

6. Prüfen Sie, ob der Reektor richtig angeschlossen ist.

ENTFERNEN DER GLASKUPPEL

1. Um die Glaskuppel zu entfernen, trennen Sie das Blitzkabel vom Netzteil und lassen

Sie den Aufsatz abkühlen.

2. Entfernen Sie alles Zubehör.

BLITZLAMPE AUSTAUSCHEN

1. Schalten Sie das Netzteil aus.

2. Trennen Sie das Blitzkabel vom Netzteil.

3. Platzieren Sie den Aufsatz horizontal auf einer harten, sauberen und trockenen

Oberäche.

4. Er muss gut festgehalten werden während des Entfernens und des Austauschens der

Blitzlampe.

5. Lassen Sie die Blitzlampe abkühlen.

VERWENDEN SIE IMMER SCHUTZHANDSCHUHE, UM DIE BLITZLAMPE ZU

ENTFERNEN!

6. Entfernen Sie den Sicherheitsring von der Blitzlampe und ziehen Sie die Blitzlampe

fest aus den Klemmen.

7. Falls die Blitzlampe kaputt ist, verwenden Sie Sicherheitshandschuhe, damit Sie

sich nicht schneiden und verwenden Sie ein isoliertes Werkzeug, um die Elektroden

herauszuziehen.

Berühren Sie niemals die Metall-Elektroden.

8. Ersetzen Sie sie nun mit einer neuen passenden Original Elinchrom Blitzlampe. Ein

isoliertes Tuch oder Schutzhandschuhe MÜSSEN VERWENDET WERDEN. Jeder

Kontakt mit Ihren Fingern auf der Lampe kann dunkle Flecken hervorrufen bei der

Verwendung.

9. Prüfen Sie, dass die Blitzlampe richtig ausgerichtet ist (mittig) und dass der

Triggerkontakt die Lampe mit dem Sicherheitsdraht umfasst.

10. Schließen Sie den Aufsatz an und testen Sie ihn wie üblich.

ANMERKUNG: Prüfen Sie die richtige Polarisation während der Nutzung, A-Typ Blitzlampen

werden ersetzt! Sie passen normalerweise nur in einer Richtung!

WARTUNG

Der Aufsatz erforderlich sehr wenig Wartung. Um einen reibungslosen Ablauf zu gewährleisten,

prüfen Sie die folgenden Punkte regelmäßig, bevor Sie den Aufsatz mit dem Netzkabel

verbinden:

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Kontakte auf dem Blitzaufsatz-Verbindungsstück nicht

durchgebrannt oder verrostet sind.

• Die Blitzkabel sollten keine Einkerbungen oder Schnitte aufweisen. Ein beschädigtes Kabel

darf nicht verwendet werden!

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Plug-in Blitzlampe und die Glaskuppel korrekt montiert sind.

• Verwenden Sie kein Wasser, um Staub und Schmutz vom Aufsatz zu entfernen.

• Die Lüftergitter müssen sauber und frei von jeglichen Klebestreifen etc. sein.

• Wenn der Aufsatz mit dem Netzkabel verbunden ist, prüfen Sie, ob die Lüftung läuft.

VORSICHT!

Öffnen Sie unter keinen Umständen irgendeinen Teil des Geräts. Der ELB 1200 Aufsatz kann

nicht von Anwendern gewartet werden und enthält gefährlich hohe Stromspannung. Im Falle von

Schwierigkeiten, kontaktieren Sie Ihren Elinchrom Vertriebspartner.

REGELMÄSSIGE PRÜFUNGEN

Die nationalen Sicherheitsregeln erfordern häuge Sicherheitsprüfungen der elektronischen

Ausrüstung. Der ELB 1200 Aufsatz sollte einmal jährlich überprüft werden. Diese Prüfung

garantiert nicht nur Sicherheit; sie schützt auch den Wert des Geräts.
