Note When the motor is installed as shown in the gure, proper alignment
between the hollow shaft inside dimension and the load shaft is
necessary. Keep the alignment tolerance within 0.02 mm (0.0008 in.).
Insucient alignment may result in damage to the gearhead internal
bearings.
Removing and assembling the gearhead
This is the procedure for when the gearhead is removed and replaced.
Removing the gearhead from the motor
Remove the hexagonal socket head screws
(4 pieces) assembling the motor and
gearhead, and detach the gearhead from
the motor.
Hexagonal socket head screw
Assembling the gearhead to the motor
Combine the gearhead with the motor and tighten the hexagonal socket head
screws. Check the key is tted to the motor output shaft before assembling them.
When assembling, apply anti-seizing agent such as molybdenum disulde grease on
the surface of the motor shaft and on the bore of the motor shaft input part in the
gearhead. Also, conrm that no gaps remain on the mating face of the motor and
gearhead.

Note
Do not forcibly assemble the motor and gearhead. The motor output
shaft or the gearhead input part may be damaged, resulting in noise
or shorter service life.
Do not allow dust to attach to the pilot sections of the motor and
gearhead. Also, assemble the motor and gearhead carefully by not
pinching the O-ring at the motor pilo t section. Pinching the O-ring
may cause to inltrate foreign objects such as water into the product.
The hexagonal socket head screws assembling the motor and
gearhead are used to attach the motor and gearhead temporarily. Be
sure to use the supplied mounting screw set to install the motor.
Installing a load
Mounting method of the load varies depending on the load shaft conditions.
See
the following gures. The hollow output shaft inside dimension is processed to a
tolerance of H8, and incorporates a key slot for load shaft attachment. A load shaft
tolerance of h7 is recommended. Also, apply anti-seizing agent such as molybdenum
disulde grease, on the surface of the load shaft and the bore of the hollow output
shaft in order to prevent seizure. A load can be installed to the hollow output shaft
from either right face or left face in the following gure.

If the O-ring that has set in the matching surface of the terminal box cover falls o,
install it securely in the groove portion of the terminal box cover.
After connecting the cable, securely tighten with the tightening torque in the table
below.
Note
To make shielding function fully eective, use a cable of an appropriate

Operation
The motor rotates when the power supply is turned on.
For protection against electric shock, do not turn on the power supply until the
wiring is complete.
Note
Make sure that the motor case temperature does not exceed
90 °C (194 °F) when operating the motor. Operation exceeding case
temperature 90 °C (194 °F) may signicantly deteriorate the coils
and ball bearings of the motor and shorten the motor's life span.
Motor case temperature can be measured by xing a thermometer
on the motor surface. It can also be measured using thermo tape or a
thermocouple.
Care should be taken when using in a low-temperature environment as
the transmission eciency will drop along with the output torque.
Do not forcibly stop the shaft rotation of gearhead by an external force.
Stopping in such a way may cause impact, leading to damage to the
gearhead.
Burnout protection for overload/locked-rotor state
Note When the output shaft is locked or in the case of an overload state, use
an electromagnetic switch in order to prevent the motor from burning
out. When connecting to an inverter, use the electronic thermal relay
function of the inverter.
When connecting to the power supply
Always connect an electromagnetic switch.
Connect the electromagnetic switch according to the operating manual of the
electromagnetic switch.
Set the motor rated current for the thermal relay.
The motor rated current is described on the motor nameplate.
For electromagnetic switches, use the products as shown in the chart, or an
equivalent.

set the closest value.
Number of motor poles 4 poles
Note
Be sure to set the electronic thermal relay according to the operating
manual of the inverter. Unless the electronic thermal relay is set, a
burnout may result.
Use a motor in a condition where an input voltage to the inverter
is at 240 VAC or lower. For the 5IK100 type motor, however, use at
230 VAC or lower. Using the motor in a condition of exceeding these
input voltages may cause the insulation of the motor windings to
deteriorate, leading to damage to the motor.
Time rating
Continuous operation is possible (continuous rating).
