When to Replace/Charge
the Battery
For the main unit:
When the battery weakens, the
BATT lamp on the main unit will
go off. Playback will become
unstable and noisy, and then the
tape will stop.
For the wireless receiver:
When the rechargeable battery
weakens, sound will become weak
and then will fade away.
For the remote control:
When the battery weakens, the
effective range of the remote
control will shorten.
Notes
When you insert a charged battery,
the BATT lamp may light up even if
it is not fully charged. But the actual
battery life will be shorter.
The BATT lamp may temporarily go
off during use in extremely low
temperatures.

Precaution
Never use the wireless receiver or
the wireless remote control in an
airplane since it may cause
interference with communication
frequencies.
To prevent accidental wireless
operation, set WIRELESS on the
main unit and POWER on the
receiver to OFF, and slide HOLD in
the direction of the arrow on the
remote control.
To use the Walkman, plug in a set
of wired headphones or earphones
(not supplied) and operate only
from the main unit. Never use the

B Getting Started
Preparing Power
Sources
A
1 Charge the rechargeable
batteries (for the main unit and
for the wireless receiver).
1 For the main unit:
Insert the supplied
rechargeable battery (NC-
6WM) for the main unit to
the supplied charger with
correct polarity.
For the wireless receiver:
Slide RELEASE on the L
(left) side of the wireless
receiver in the direction of
the arrow to detach the
rechargeable battery for the
receiver.
Attach the battery to the
charge adaptor as
illustrated and then attach
adaptor to the charger with
correct polarity.
2 Plug in the charger to the
house current (mains).
Full-charging takes about 5
hours for the rechargeable
battery for the receiver, and
3 hours for the battery for
the main unit.
You can charge the batteries
about 300 times.
2 For the main unit:
Insert the fully charged battery
into the rechargeable battery
compartment.
For the wireless receiver:
Attach the rechargeable battery
to the receiver as illustrated.
To use a dry battery
The main unit can also be
powered by a dry battery.
Attach the supplied battery
case to the Walkman, and then
insert one R6 (size AA) battery
with correct polarity.
3 Press the PUSH button on the
bottom of the remote control
with a pointed object to eject
the battery compartment. Place
one LR43 battery (supplied)
with the 3 side facing up.
Note
Certain countries may regulate
disposal of batteries used to power
this product. Please consult your
local authority.
B Operating the
Walkman
Playing a Tape B
1 Open the cassette holder and
insert a cassette.
2 Set WIRELESS on the main unit
to the same channel (CH1 or
CH2) as that on the R (right)
side of the wireless receiver,
and slide POWER on the L
side of the receiver to ON.
3 Make sure the HOLD function
is turned off. If it is on, slide
HOLD to turn it off.
4 Press bB(play)•REPEAT and
adjust the volume with VOL on
the wireless receiver.
If the receiver does not fit to
your ears or the sound is
unbalanced, adjust the receiver
to fit to your ears firmly.
Notes on volume control
You cannot adjust the volume of the
receiver with the VOL control on the
main unit.
Sound from the receiver cannot be
turned down all the way.
Notes on wireless operation
Keep both the receiver and the
remote control within about one
meter from the main unit.
The receiver and the remote control
cannot be used when the WIRELESS
selector on the main unit is set to
OFF.
Note on the cassette holder
When opening the cassette holder on
the main unit, make sure the tape is
stopped, then slide the OPEN
switch. If the cassette holder is
opened when the tape is running,
the tape may loosen and be
damaged.
* When the tape reaches the end while
playing the FWD side, playback will
switch automatically to the opposite
side and stop at the end of that side.
(When the tape reaches the end
while playing the REV side,
playback will stop there.)
**Fast forward/rewind will stop
automatically when the tape reaches
the end of the side.
When you are finished using
the unit
Be sure to set the POWER switch on
the L side of the wireless receiver
to OFF.
Notes
When the tape has been in the stop
mode for a minute, the wireless
function of the main unit will be
automatically deactivated, and
consequently, noise will be heard
from the wireless receiver if it is kept
on.
If you are finished using the
Walkman, set the POWER switch on
the receiver to OFF.
If you wish to continue operation,
press any button on the main unit or
the remote control. The wireless
function of the main unit will
resume automatically.
To prevent unnecessary wear of the
batteries, we recommend that the
POWER switch on the receiver and
the WIRELESS switch on the main
unit be set to OFF every time you
finish using the Walkman.
Notes on the
Wireless Receiver
and Remote Control
C
If there is interference in the
playback sound from the
receiver
Switch the channel on the
WIRELESS switches on both the
main unit and on the R side of the
receiver. Be sure to select the same
channel (CH1 or CH2) for both
switches.
How to hold the remote
control
When using the remote control
hand-held, be sure not to cover the
left half of the control with your
hand.

Note on AMS and Repeat Single
Track
To operate the AMS and the Repeat
Single Track functions, you need a
blank of 4 seconds or longer between
the tracks. Therefore, if there is noise
between the tracks, these functions
will not detect the blank and will not
operate. Likewise, if the recording
level is moderately low within a
track, these functions may
inaccurately operate.
