When to replace batteries
When the sound becomes weak or distorted, replace both
batteries with new ones.
Note
When the unit is not to be used for a long period of time, remove
the batteries to avoid damage caused by battery leakage and
corrosion.
When the radio turns off unexpectedly
If the Power Auto Off function is activated, the radio will
turn off automatically after about 90 minutes to prevent
unnecessary wear of the batteries.
To turn the radio on again, set POWER • AUTO OFF to
ON, or slide it in the direction of the arrow to AUTO
OFF.
If the power does not turn on after POWER • AUTO OFF
is slid to ON or in the direction of the arrow to AUTO
OFF, or if the radio turns off unrelated to the Power Auto
Off function, the batteries are exhausted. Replace them
with new ones.
When the battery compartment lid becomes
detached (see Fig. A-b)
The use of excessive force when opening the battery
compartment lid may cause it to become detached. To
reattach it, see the illustration.
Using the earphone (See Fig.B)
Pulling out/winding the cord
Pull out the cord by holding the cord and not by the
earpiece.
When winding the cord, hold the cord gently and slide
AUTO WIND in the direction of the arrow. Gently hold
and guide the cord until it is wound up.
If the winding stopped in the middle
Pull out the cord about 10 centimeters and slide AUTO
WIND again.
Notes
Pulling out the cord by the earpiece may cause damage to the
components of the unit.
Do not pull out the cord any farther when the white end-
marker appears.
When listening to FM broadcasts, keep the earphone cord
extended even when listening with the speaker, as the cord
serves as the antenna.
If an earphone is plugged into the @ (earphone) jack, there will
be no sound from the built-in earphone.
Do not wind the earphone cord while wearing the earphone, as
the cord may hit your face.
Reception may become noisy if the earphone cord is pulled out
or wound up while playing the radio.
If the cord is not held gently and guided while winding, the
impact of the retraction may cause damage to the components
of the unit.
When listening to the radio
(See Fig.C)
FM (see Fig. C-a): The earphone cord serves as the
FM antenna and should be extended even when listening
through the speaker.
AM (see Fig. C-b): A ferrite bar antenna is built in for
AM reception. Rotate the unit horizontally for optimum
reception.
In vehicles or in buildings, radio reception may be poor.
Try listening near a window.
When the signal is weak and reception is noisy
Set NOISE CUT to ON.

You can listen to the radio with the speaker or the
earphone .
