Welcome!
Welcome to the world of the MiniDisc! Below
you will find descriptions of some of the
capabilities and features that you will
discover on your new MiniDisc player.
Wireless control by wristwatch-style
controller
The wireless controller allows you to
control basic player functions, display track
titles, and set playback parameters on a
backlit, 9-character LCD.
Simple “One-Touch Eject” function for
easy MiniDisc handling
A single press of a button on the side of the
player causes the player lid to open and the
MiniDisc to eject.
Versatile wristwatch functions
The wireless controller also acts as a
wristwatch with calendar, stopwatch, and
alarm functions.
Low power-consumption design for
longer battery life.
Forty-second memory for correction of
reading errors caused by shocks.
BGetting started
Getting started A
Before you can use your player, you must first
insert the supplied rechargeable battery into
the player (or attach a dry battery (not
supplied)), and insert the supplied button
battery into the wireless controller (see
“Power Sources” for more details).
1 Charge the supplied NH-14WM
rechargeable battery with the supplied
battery charger.
After about 1.5 hours, charging ends and
the lamp on the charger turns off. (To get
maximum performance from the battery,
continue charging it for another hour
after the lamp turns off.)
A fully charged battery should provide
about 15 hours of playback.
2 Open the lid of the rechargeable battery
compartment and insert the charged
battery.
3 Use a coin to open the lid of battery
compartment on the bottom of the
wireless controller and insert the
supplied button battery with the plus side
facing up.
Replace the lid and screw it in until it is
tight.
4 Use the wireless controller.
The wireless controller can be used right
out of the box. No need to set it up. (The
CH switch is factory-set to A(ch).)
1 Make sure that the WIRELESS
CONTROL switch on the player is set
to ON.
Normally, there is no need to turn this
switch OFF, except when using the
player on airplanes.
2 Make sure that the CH switch on the
player is set to A.
If you experience interference from
other wireless controllers, do steps 3
through 6 to switch your controller
to another channel (B).
3 Use the tip of a ballpoint pen or
another sharp-tipped implement to set
the CH switch on the player to B.
4 Press MODE on the wireless
controller repeatedly to display the
mode indication. Press down MODE
for about 3 seconds while the mode
indication is on.
5 Press VOLUME +/– on the wireless
controller until “B ch” is displayed.
6 Push the control on the wireless
controller towards the right to
complete the changing of the channel.

A long beep sounds in the headphones when
you use the wireless controller for this step.
About the wireless controller
The following radio transmissions occur between
the player and the wireless controller:
The wireless controller sends control signals
to the player.
The player sends information to the wireless
controller.
The communication lamp on the player turns on
whenever the player sends information to the
wireless controller or receives a signal from the
wireless controller. Two kinds of information are
displayed on the LCD on the wireless controller:
The control indication when the wireless
controller is used to do a playback, cueing, or
volume adjustment operation.
The mode indication during repeat play or the
display of a track title.
Due to its use of radio waves, keep the following
points in mind when using the wireless
controller.
Do not use the wireless controller on an
airplane as the emitted signals may interfere
with the airplane’s communication system.
Make sure the WIRELESS CONTROL switch
on the player is turned OFF during the flight.
(Do not use the player in an airplane during
take-off or landing (or at any other time when
the use of the electronic devices is restricted). )
Operate the wireless controller within 1 meter
of the player.
Under the following conditions, radio
transmission may be poor, and the effective
communication distance between the wireless
controller and the player may be shorter than
usual.
When the headphone cord is wound round
the player.
When the player is near a metallic object or
when the MD in the player has a metallic
label.
When there are items blocking the radio
transmissions between the player and the
wireless controller.
When the player is near a computer or
other source of electromagnetic noise.
When the player is near a source of strong
radio waves, such as TV or radio
transmitter.
When the player is inside a car or train.
When the player is near people using
radios or wireless walkmans.
If the communication between the player and
wireless controller is poor, or if the player does
not respond to the wireless controller, change the
position or orientation of the player or wireless
controller or change the way you are grasping
them.
The supplied wireless controller can be used
only with this player.

the battery terminals are properly oriented.
Then attach the battery case to the player. A
new battery should provide about 21 hours of
playback.
The combined use of a full charged battery
and a new LR6 alkaline battery should result
in about 40 hours of playback.
The wireless controller:
The service life of the battery is about 3
months.
When to recharge or replace the batteries
The player:
When the battery is nearly exhausted,
“LOW BATT” will flash in the LCD on the
