Glow Plug:
Ignites the compressed fuel/air
mixture.
Needle Valve:
Controls the amount of fuel for
the high-end fuel/air mixture.
Muffler:
Reduces noise.
Idle Adjustment Screw:
Controls how much the carbu-
retor is openend when idling.
Carburetor:
Mixes air and fuel to obtain the fuel/air
mixture, the amount of which will affect
engine rpm.
Mixture Control Valve:
Controls the amount of fuel for the fuel/air
mixture at idle/low speed. (Some engines
may have no mixture control valve at all or
one that is fixed.)
Recoil Starter:
Starts the engine.

HOW TO HANDLE ENGINES IN GP CARS
ENGINE DESCRIPTION
CHECKLIST BEFORE RUNNING
Ensure all screws are securely tightened.
Ensure all moving parts move without binding.
Are they greased for non-binding movement?
Install an air cleaner.
Ensure it is clean and not clogged.
Ensure the fuel lining is proof, with no cracks.
Ensure it is not clogged.
Ensure the muffler and exhaust are damage-free.
Ensure the radio batteries are fresh.
Are they securely installed?
Ensure servos and linkages move without binding.
Ensure the area of operation is safe.
Ensure nobody is on your frequency at the
same time.
Throttle Lever:
Controls the amount of fuel/air
mixture affecting engine rpm.
Adjust as per instructions on the engine.
Engines include many high-precision parts.
If disassembling engines carelessly, their original
performance may be lost!

Fill up the fuel tank.
Switch on the transmitter, then the receiver.
Adjust the needle valve.
Attach the glow plug heater.
Start the engine.

Gently tighten the needle valve (clockwise) until resistance is felt.
Uscrew the needle valve (counterclockwise) as many turns as
specified in the instructions on the engine.

For stopping the engine, press the air cleaner.

The engine and muffler get hot! Do not touch
them during and right after operation!
Ensure the throttle lever is in the idle position (slow).
After stopping the engine, switch off the receiver, then the
transmitter.

Engine starting is enhanced when raising the throttle trim.
Start the engine in either of the following ways:
Recoil Starter
Starter
Starter Box
Run the engine up.

Move up the throttle control stick a little to enhance engine
run-up.
When rpm become stable, lower the throttle control and trim,
and detach the glow plug heater.

When fuel reaches
this point, push the
primer button one
more time.
After fuel has reached the carburetor, enhance engine starting
by pulling the recoil starter 2 ~ 3 times to spread fuel through
the engine.
Attach not painted place.
Push the primer button.
Since exhausts and fuel vapors are noxious to
health, use fuel only outdoors!

Adjust in the order and after completing the break-in.
The engine stalls.
The car rolls forward.
Unscrew by 1/8~1/4 turns.Tighten by 1/8~1/4 turns.
Before putting your car aside, draw out any fuel
from the tank.
Next, restart the engine to combust remaining
fuel. Leaving fuel inside the engine will make
engine starting difficult.
Wipe off dirt and oil.
Check all parts for screw looseness.
Grease all moving parts.
Disconnect the receiver batteries.

Place the car on top of a stand with
the wheels aloof from the ground.

Start the engine as specified in the chapter < ENGINE STARTING >.

Slowly raise the throttle control stick and check whether the tires will
spin or the brake work. (If the tires do not spin at all or spin poorly,
refer to the assembly instruction manual.)

Break-in the engine. After each tank consumed, tighten the needle
valve 10¡ ~ 20¡.

Raise the throttle trim as long as the engine does not stall.

Start the engine as explained in the
chapter <ENGINE STARTING> and run
your car.
Monitor the speed of your car running
down a straight with the throttle control
stick moved to high. When tightening
the needle valve 10¡ ~ 20¡, speed increases. As your car
reaches top speed, the needle valve setting is optimal.

MAINTENANCE
The break-in is required to condition brandnew engines to regular
and smooth running! If you fail to break-in an engine, the lubricant
inside will not circulate and the engine will be caked with burns;
running becomes difficult and engine life is shortened.

Adjust with the throttle control stick in neutral.

When tightening the needle valve further, exhausts become in-
visible and rpm decrease. Running the engine with this setting
will ask for engine damage. Unscrew the needle valve at once.
Note that for normal running, the needle valve is unscrewed 10¡ ~
20¡ from the valveÔs optimal setting position!
During the break-in, do not operate the engine with
high rpm! Serious damage may be the result.
Run the engine a total of 5 tanks to complete the break-in.

Adjust the engine so the car will not speed off when the throttle
control stick is in neutral and you do not apply brakes.

CAUTION
ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM CAUSE

Engine will not start.
Recoil starter is difficult
to pull.
Overchoked.
(Cylinder is flooded with fuel.)
Engine runs a short
time and quits.
Fuel does not reach carburetor.
Glow plug is not heated.
Wrong carburetor setting.
Push primer button.
Ensure glow plug heater is correctly
attached.
Install fresh batteries or recharge Ni-Cd
battery.
Install new glow plug.
Re-read instruction manual and reset.
Remove glow plug and vigorously pull recoil
starter to expel excess fuel.
Install new recoil starter.
Fill up fuel tank.
Clean fuel filter & air cleaner, or replace them.
Cool engine, unscrew needle valve 30¡ and
restart engine.
Install new glow plug.
Re-read instruction manual and reset.
No fuel.
Fuel filter & air cleaner are
clogged.
Overheated.
Defective glow plug.
Wrong carburetor setting.
Defective recoil starter.
