Welcome!
Welcome to the world of the MiniDisc! Here
are some of the capabilities and features you
will discover with the new MiniDisc player.
Small body almost the size of a MiniDisc
jacket
Ideal weight and size; fits in your shirt
pocket.
Low power-consumption design enables
extended battery life.
Easy-to-operate headphones remote
control with backlit LCD
Keep the main unit in your pocket and
operate the MiniDisc player through the
“slim stick” remote control. The LCD
displays disc and track information,
playback mode as well as battery condition.
Shock-resistant memory offsets up to 40
seconds of optical read errors.
BMD playing
Playing an MD! A
Before using the supplied rechargeable
battery for the first time, charge it. Other
choices are a dry battery and house current
(see “Power Sources”).
Playback will switch automatically between
stereo and monaural according to the sound
source.
1 Charge the supplied rechargeable battery
NH-14WM with the supplied battery
charger.
When the rechargeable battery is charged
about 90%, the charger lamp goes off.
Full-charging takes about another hour (a
total of about 16 hours).
A fully-charged battery should power
consecutive playback for about 16 hours
before you need to recharge it.
2 Open the rechargeable battery
compartment lid and insert the charged
battery.
3 Insert an MD.
1 Slide the OPEN switch and open the
lid.
2 Insert the MD with the label side
facing up, and press the lid down to
close.
4 Play the MD.
1 Connect the headphones (supplied) to
the remote control.
2 Connect the headphones with remote
control (supplied) to the
iREMOTE (headphones) jack of the
player.
3 Press >/N (jog the control to
N> on the remote control).
The OPERATE lamp on the main unit
will light up and the player starts to
play the first track.
A short beep sounds in the
headphones.
4 Press the VOLUME +/– buttons
(VOL +/– on the remote control) to
adjust the volume.
The volume will be shown in the
display on the remote control.
To stop play, press x.
The OPERATE lamp on the main unit will go
off.
A long beep sounds in the headphones.
The display on the remote control will
disappear after a while.
Other disc operation
To

Remove the
MD
* If you press . or >/N during pause,
the player will resume playback. If you keep
pressing . or >/N during pause (keep
the control jogged to . or N> on the
remote control), you can fast forward/rewind
without listening to the playback sound.
** Once you open the lid, the point to start play
will change to the beginning of the first track.
Tips
The OPERATE lamp will light up on the
main unit during playback. It will go off
when x is pressed.
The display on the remote control will
disappear after a few seconds after you
have pressed x.
If playback does not start
Make sure the player is not locked. See “To
lock the controls”.
Playing tracks repeatedly B
Press the PLAYMODE button on the remote
control while the player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the PLAYMODE button,
the play mode indication changes as follows:
(none) (normal play)
All the tracks are played once.
v
F” (all repeat)
All the tracks are played repeatedly.
v
F 1” (single repeat)
A single track is played repeatedly.
v
F SHUF” (shuffle repeat)
All the tracks are played repeatedly in
random order.
Using other functions
To know the track name and time C
Press the DISPLAY button on the remote
control while the player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the DISPLAY button, the
elapsed time of the current track and the track
number, the track name and number, and the
disc name and the number of tracks recorded
on the MD appear.
Note
Disc and track names appear only with MDs that
have been electronically labeled.
To lock the controls D
On the main unit, slide the HOLD switch in
the direction of the . to lock the controls of
the main unit.
On the remote control, slide the HOLD switch
in the direction of the . to lock the controls
of the remote control.
To emphasize bass (Digital Mega
Bass function) E
Slide the DIGITAL MEGABASS switch and
choose 1 (slight effect) or 2 (strong effect).
To protect your hearing (AVLS) F
Set the AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter
System) switch to LIMIT.
The volume is kept at a moderate level, even
if you try to turn the volume above the
limited level.
Using the hand strap G
Attach the hand strap as shown in the
illustration.
Note
Use only the supplied hand strap.
BPower Sources
Using on a battery H
Attach the supplied battery case to the player,
and then insert one LR6 alkaline battery with
correct polarity.
The battery should power consecutive
playback for about 22 hours before you need
to replace it.
When to recharge or replace the
battery
When the battery indication changes to r,
the rechargeable battery or the dry battery is
weak. Recharge the rechargeable battery or
replace the dry battery. When the battery is
exhausted, “LoBATT” flashes in the display of
the remote control and the power goes off.
Using on house current I
Before using the player, remove the
rechargeble battery if it is installed.
Attach the supplied battery case and connect
the AC-E15L AC power adaptor (not
supplied) to the DC IN 1.5V jack of the battery
case.
Do not use any other AC power adaptor.
Note
The battery indication mark is displayed while
using the AC power adaptor.
Do this (Beeps in the
headphones)
Press X on the remote
control. (Continuous short
beeps)
Press X again to resume
play.
Press . once.
Jog the control to . on
the remote control. (Three
short beeps)
Press >/N once.
Jog the control to N>
on the remote control.
(Two short beeps)
Keep pressing ..
Keep the control jogged to
. on the remote
control.
Keep pressing >/N.
Keep the control jogged to
N> on the remote
control.
Press x and slide OPEN
to open the lid.**
