Thank you for purchasing an Oriental Motor product.
This Operating Manual describes product handling procedures.
• Please read it thoroughly.
• Always keep the manual where it is readily available.
Introduction
Before use
The product described in this manual has been designed and manufactured for
use in general industrial machinery, and must not be used for any other purpose.

Checking the product
Verify that the items listed below are included. Report any missing or damaged
items to the branch or sales office from which you purchased the product.
• Gearhead ...........................................................1 unit
• Screws, washers, spring washers.......................4 pcs. each
(Refer to the catalog for screw size.)
• Parallel key.........................................................1 pc.
(Supplied with gearhead having key grooves on the output shaft.)
• OPERATING MANUAL.......................................1 copy (this document)
Precautions for use
• Installation location
Ambient temperature; −10 to +50 °C (+14 to +122 °F) and 85% humidity.
Do not use your gearmotor where it may be exposed direct sunlight water and/or
oil. Do not use your gearmotor in locations subject to severe vibration or shock,
a large amount of dust, inflammable gas and or corrosive gas.
• Grease measures
On rare occasions, a small amount of grease may ooze out from the gearhead. If
there is concern over possible environmental damage resulting from the leakage of
grease, check for grease stains during regular inspections. Alternatively, install an
oil pan or other device to prevent leakage from causing further damage. Oil
leakage may lead to problems in the customer’s equipment or products.
• Rotating direction of the gearhead output shaft
With some gear ratios, the motor and gearhead output shaft will rotates in
opposite directions. Refer to catalogue for details.
• Maximum permissible torque
The torque limit is defined as the “maximum allowable torque,” which is specified
in accordance with the gearhead size and gear ratio. Refer to catalogue for
details. Also, be sure shaft rotation is not stopped by an external force or load
obstruction. The resulting shock may damage the gearhead.
• Permissible radial load and permissible axial load
The radial load and axial load have a great influence on the life of the bearings
and strength of the shaft. Do not exceed the permissible radial load and
permissible axial load. Refer to catalogue for details.
Assembling the motor with the gearhead
Check the model names of the motor and gearhead. Gearheads and motors will
fit together only if they are both of the same frame size and of the same gear
type.

Using the pilot sections of the motor and
gearhead as guides, slowly rotate it
clockwise/counterclockwise to prevent
the pinion of the motor output shaft from
contacting the side panel or gear of the
gearhead.
Also confirm that no gaps remain
between the motor and gearhead.

Note • Do not forcibly assemble the motor and gearhead. Also, do not let
metal objects or other foreign matters enter the gearhead. The motor
pinion shaft or gearhead may be damaged, resulting in noise or
shorter service life.
• When an O-ring is installed on the motor flange, assemble the motor
and gearhead not to pinch the O-ring. Grease in the gearhead may
leak.
Install the motor/gearhead to the equipment
Use the mounting screws supplied with the gearhead.

Attaching the load
The shaft of the gearhead has been
machined to an outer diameter
tolerance of h7 and is provided with a
key slot for connecting the
transmission parts. When connecting
the transmission parts, ensure that the
shaft and parts have a clearance fit, and
secure with a screw to prevent the parts
from wobbling.

parts
For the gearhead with a screw hole at the tip of its output shaft, use the hole as
an auxiliary for preventing the transmission component from disengaging.
Note Do not use excessive force, or hammer the
transmission parts onto the gearmotor shaft as damage
may occur.
