Preparations
To insert battery A
1 Slide the OPEN switch to open the cassette
holder.
2 Release the catch to open the battery
compartment lid, and insert one R6 (size
AA) dry battery with correct polarity.
Note
For maximum performance we recommend that you
use a Sony alkaline battery.
When to replace the battery B
Replace the battery with the new one when the
BATT indicator dims.
Note
After the battery is replaced, the settings of the
FUNCTION and SOUND buttons will be erased.
Playing a Tape
1 Insert a cassette.
2 If the HOLD function is on, slide the HOLD
switch in the opposite direction of the
arrow to unlock the controls.
3 Press PLAY•Y (repeat) on the main unit
and adjust the volume with VOL. (On the
remote control, press Y (play•repeat)•x
(stop).)
When adjusting the volume on the remote control
Set the VOL control on the main unit slightly above the
appropriate level.

Using Other Functions
Adjusting Playback Mode
(BL SKIP/s)
While holding down FUNCTION, press FF.
The BL SKIP/s lamp will light up as
long as FUNCTION is pressed.
Both sides of the tape is played repeatedly
(s mode), and the tape is fast-forwarded
to the next track if there is a blank space
longer than 12 seconds.
To cancel the BL SKIP/s function
While holding down FUNCTION, press FF.
The BL SKIP/s lamp goes off.
Both sides of the tape is played once from
the FWD side (if you start from the reverse
side (opposite to the lid), only that side will
be played).

Protecting Your Hearing — AVLS
(Automatic Volume Limiter
System)
The maximum volume is kept down to protect your
ears.
While holding down FUNCTION, press
REW. The AVLS lamp will light up as long
as FUNCTION is pressed.
To cancel the AVLS function
While holding down FUNCTION, press
REW. The AVLS lamp goes off.
Notes on FUNCTION
• When FUNCTION is pressed, the LED lamp will light
up to show the present mode.
• When you hold down FUNCTION to enter a function
mode, you will hear a short beep and when you press
FUNCTION again to cancel it, you will hear two short
beeps.
• When you hold down FUNCTION to enter a function
mode, BATT indicator will light up. At this moment,
battery level cannot be judged.
Emphasizing Bass (SOUND)
Press SOUND. Each time you press the
button, the SOUND mode changes as
below.

Notes
• If the sound is distorted with the mode “GRV”, turn
down the volume of the main unit or select other
modes.
• Bass emphasis may not show great effect if the
volume is turned up too high.
Locking the Controls — HOLD
Function
Slide the HOLD switch in the direction of the arrow
to lock the controls of the main unit or the remote
control.
Precautions
On batteries
• Do not carry dry batteries with coins or other metallic objects.
It can generate heat if the positive and negative terminals of
the batteries are accidentally contacted by a metallic object.
•When you are not going to use the main unit for a long time,
remove the battery to prevent any damage from battery
leakage and corrosion.
On handling
• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a
place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust or sand,
moisture, rain, mechanical shock, or in a car with its windows
closed.
•We do not recommend the use of tape longer than 90 minutes.
They are very thin and tend to be stretched easily. This may
cause malfunction of the unit or sound deterioration.
• If the unit has not been used for a long time, set it in the
playback mode to warm it up for a few minutes before you
start using again.
On the remote control
Use the supplied remote control only with this unit.
On headphones/earphones
Road safety
Do not use headphones/earphones while driving, cycling, or
operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard
and is illegal in some areas. It can also be potentially dangerous
to play your headphones/earphones at high volume while
walking, especially at pedestrian crossings.
You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations.
Preventing hearing damage
Do not use headphones/earphones at high volume. Hearing
experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If
you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or
discontinue use.
Caring for others
Keep the volume to a moderate level. This will allow you to
hear outside sounds and to be considerate to the people around
you.
On maintenance
• Clean the tape head and tape path, using a cotton swab and
commercially available cleaning solvent after every 10 hours
of use.
•To clean the exterior, use a soft cloth slightly moistened in
water. Do not use alcohol, benzine or thinner.
• Clean the headphones/earphones and remote control plugs
periodically.

배터리의 교환 시기 B
BATT 표시등이 희미해지면 새 배터리로 교체하십시오.
주의점
배터리를 교환하면 FUNCTION과 SOUND 버튼의 설정은 소거
됩니다.
테이프를 재생하기
1 카세트를 넣으십시오.
2 HOLD 기능이 설정되어 있는 경우, HOLD 스위
치를 화살표 반대 방향으로 밀어 제어 패널의 잠금
을 해제하십시오.
3 본체의 PLAY•Y (반복) 버튼을 누르고 VOL을
사용하여 볼륨을 조정하십시오(리모컨에서는 Y
(재생•반복)•x(중지)를 누르십시오).
리모컨으로 음량을 조절하는 경우
본체의 VOL 조절 스위치를 적절한 음량보다 약간 높게 설정해 놓

BL SKIP/s 기능을 취소하려면

FUNCTION 기능 사용시 주의사항
• FUNCTION을 누르면 LED 램프가 켜지면서 현재 모드가 표
시됩니다.
• FUNCTION을 눌러 기능 모드에 들어가면 짧은 작동음이 한 번
들리고, FUNCTION을 다시 눌러 기능 모드를 취소하면 짧은
작동음이 두 번 들립니다.
• FUNCTION을 눌러 기능 모드에 들어가면 BATT 표시등이 켜
집니다. 이 때, 배터리 용량은 표시되지 않습니다.
저음을 강조하기(SOUND)

습니다.
컨트롤 스위치류를 로크하기 — HOLD 기능
HOLD 스위치를 화살표 방향으로 밀면 본체의 제어 패널 또
는 또는 리모컨이 잠궈집니다.
사용상의 주의
배터리에 대해서
• 건전지를 동전 등의 금속과 함께 휴대하지 마십시오. 배터리의 양극
과 음극이 금속에 의해서 접촉되면 발열되는 경우가 있습니다.
• 본체를 장시간 사용하지 않을 경우에는 배터리 누액 및 이에 따른 부
식으로 인한 손상을 방지하기 위해 배터리를 빼두십시오.
취급에 대해서
• 본기를 난방 기구의 가까이, 직사광선이 닿는 장소, 먼지나 모래가 많
은 장소, 수분, 비, 진동이 있는 장소, 창문을 꼭 닫은 자동차 안 등에
방치하지 마십시오.
• 테이프를 90분 이상 사용하지 않는 것이 좋습니다. 테이프는 매우 얇
으므로 쉽게 늘어질 염려가 있습니다. 이로 인해 장치가 고장나거나
음질이 떨어질 수 있습니다.
• 본기를 장기간 사용하지 않았을 때에는 몇 분간 재생 상태로 해서 워
밍업한 후에 카세트를 넣어 주십시오.
리모컨에 대해서
부속된 리모컨은 본기에서만 사용하여 주십시오.
헤드폰/이어폰에 대해서
교통 안전에 대해서
자전거, 오토바이, 자동차 등의 운전 중에는 헤드폰/이어폰을 사용하지
마십시오. 교통 사고의 위험이 있을 뿐만 아니라 위법이 되는 지역도 있
습니다. 보행 중에도 특히 횡단보도에서는 큰 소리로 헤드폰/이어폰을
사용하는 것은 위험한 경우가 있습니다.
위험하다고 생각되는 경우에는 충분히 주의하거나 사용을 중지하십시
오.
청력을 보호하기 위해서
헤드폰/이어폰은 큰 소리로 사용하지 마십시오. 전문가는 계속해서 큰
소리를 장시간 듣는 것은 위험하다고 합니다. 귀가 울릴 때에는 음량을
줄이거나 사용을 중지하십시오.
주위의 분들께 배려를
적절한 음량으로 즐겨 주십시오. 주의의 소리가 들릴 뿐만 아니라 주의
의 분들께 폐도 끼치지 않게 됩니다.
손질법에 대해서
• 10시간 사용할 때마다 면봉과 시판용 클리닝액을 사용해서 테이프
헤드 및 테이프 주행로를 클리닝하여 주십시오.
• 본체 표면을 청소할 때에는 물로 살짝 적신 부드러운 헝겊을 사용하
십시오. 알코올이나 벤젠, 시너는 사용하지 마십시오.
• 헤드폰/이어폰 및 리모컨용 플러그는 정기적으로 청소하여 주십시
오.
